Pointe Claire lies in that quiet part of Montreal's West Island. This is also known as the West Island, which is often referred to as a distinct "island" located west of Montreal by those unfamiliar with the area, actually includes everything west of Lachine. There is an argument that it was the birthplace of Amanda Brugel, but while it's true that she was born there, her stay there was brief. Brugel grew up in Courtice in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. The first goal she had was to become a professional dancer. In the end, however, her growth rate meant that she outgrew her dance partner. She acknowledged in a piece published by the Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall while wearing heels. As I grew older, my male partners I stopped. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from a high school drama teacher that pushed her into the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to try her hand at a character in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, and got the role of leading role for the role of Rita in Anne of Green Gables. The show was a recipient of a Fine Arts Talent scholarship at York University, where she was a theatre student and earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in 2000.
